Welcome to the Classrooms
Dear Families, Staff and Visitors, When you enter the school it is a pleasure to see you. It’s also exciting to know how you see and hear us. The environment is child centered and you will hear children’s voices. Sometimes loud, happy, sad, crying, talking in small groups, or singing while playing in an impromptu band. We respect children and love to listen to them and give them authentic opportunities to engage in meaningful conversations. Our goal is to develop the child’s intrinsic independence and self esteem. At 123 Look at Me Learning we believe that rather than saying “good job” it is important to state the entire message. “Thank you for washing your hands so well. It’s going to help us all keep the germs out of the building.” When children apologize to each other, it sounds like this…”I’m sorry I took your toy when you were not looking” while the offended friend replies “Thank you for saying your sorry. Please don’t take my toy again.” We all make mistakes and learning how to be resilient, caring people takes lots of practice. At drop off, a quick sign language greetings to staff while children meet and greet their peers is the best way to promote their initiative to increase social independence. Always, if it’s an adult you want to talk with in deeper conversation, then we will move to another room so that the children can still engage in their learning. Many thanks for allowing us to be a part of your team! Ms. Jan
